The Collins Class submarine fleet’s Life of Type Extension (LOTE) will provide the nation with a potent, conventionally powered submarine capability into the 2030s.
The Collins boats are internationally regarded among the best conventional submarines in the world. ASC will continue to deliver high levels of submarine performance and availability to the Royal Australian Navy as the LOTE project is implemented.
During the project, ASC will replace the propulsion systems, diesel engines, generators, and the power conversion and distribution systems. There will also be a cooling system update and a range of hull assessments. ASC will integrate the new equipment into the existing command and control system.
The LOTE will be implemented on all six Collins Class submarines.
The project is currently in the detailed design phase and ASC is working closely with the Royal Australian Navy, the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, Australian suppliers and international partners to deliver the Navy’s specific requirements.
ASC is on schedule to undertake First of Class LOTE implementation with HMAS Farncomb in 2026.
